Gateway classic cars of Detroit is proud to present this 1953 Ford Crestline Sunliner Pace car. Ford Motor Company gifted the original race-used pace car to The Henry Ford, where it remains today. Ford Motor also produced some 2,000 replicas for sale to the public. This one, was 1 of 2 that was a AAA car at Indianapolis the day of the race. The one used as the pace car can be found at the Henry Ford museum, and this one was the backup car. Each replica included the same features (Ford-O-Matic transmission, power steering, Continental spare tire kit), along with Sungate Ivory paint, and gold lettering. The Ivory and gold continue on the interior with the beautiful vinyl seats. Reportedly, it was the first time a manufacturer offered pace car copies for purchase by the general public, something that is now a well-established tradition in its own right. The serial number confirms it's a 110 HP Crestline Sunliner Convertible-all Pace Cars came with the higher-output Flathead V-8. Features include: Am radio, automatic convertible top (not working, must be done by hand) wire wheels (recently restored by Dayton wire wheels with stainless steel spokes). Whether your a Indy 500 fan, pace car collector, or just love Ford sunliners, this car is sure to please!
