- The 175 was a milestone for Count Agusta's firm - its first production bike with a four-stroke engine. During its seven-year production life, the 175 series was the company's best-seller
- The unit-construction single-cylinder power unit featured a chain-driven overhead camshaft, operating the valves via rocker arms
- Initially the 175 was offered as a Tourer (CST/CSTL) with 8bhp at 5,600rpm but a Sports model (175 CS) soon followed with lower handlebars and 11bhp at 6,700rpm
- Around 4,500 examples of the 175 CS were produced and the machines soon attracted the nickname Disco Volante (Flying Saucer) from Italian motorcycle fans, as they saw its distinctive fuel-tank shape as connected to a vehicle from another galaxy
