Chassis No. ZFFSG17A3J0078798 Testa Rossa (translating to Red Head and denoting the red valve covers) had been applied to what many consider Ferrari's masterwork in sports racing: the Le Mans-winning 250 TR. This designation carried profound historical weight, setting extraordinarily high expectations for any car bearing its name. In 1984, the stage was set at the Paris Auto Show, as enthusiasts awaited the unveiling of the new, highly anticipated Testarossa and it did not disappoint. The new Testarossa retained its Boxer predecessor's mid-mounted 5.0-liter 12-cylinder engine with horsepower now boosted to 390 courtesy of four-valve heads. Despite the power increase, smoothness and drivability was improved, with a maximum speed of 180 mph. The Pininfarina-designed side strakes, which fed air to the side-mounted radiators, became one of the most instantly recognizable styling cues of the decade. Wider and longer than the 512 BBi, its increased dimensions accommodated wider tires a larger passenger compartment all while weighing less than the Boxer thanks to its use of aluminum body panels. This fine Ferrari Testarossa was completed in September 1988 as a left-hand drive, North American-market example finished in Rosso Corsa with a Beige and Testa di Moro (Brown) leather interior. The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report begins with an initial entry in 1995, showing the Ferrari as being titled in New Jersey with just under 2,500 miles. Subsequent entries in the 1990s indicate the car spent time in New York and Indiana, later resuming in 2024 when the car was issued a Florida title with just over 13,000 miles. Now offered with a modest 13,408 total miles since new, this is a well-kept example of Ferrari’s iconic 1980s flagship. It exhibits all of its correct U.S.-specification features including its rear impact bumper, yellow front lights, third brake light, and rectangular side indicators. Inside, its passive restraint system is in place and its Connolly leather seat upholstery is in excellent condition with minor wear on the driver’s outer bolster. Today, the original Testarossa remains one of the most coveted and widely recognizable models of the marque for its era-defining styling, superb drivability, and legendary performance. This low mileage, well-kept example poses a compelling offer for anyone in the market for a Testarossa.
