From Hemmings: âPlymouth fans looking for inexpensive transportation in 1972 had ample choices in the Valiant lineup, including a pair of two-door Dusters, a four-door sedan and a two-door hardtop sold under the Scamp nameplate. Essentially a badge-engineered Dodge Dart Swinger, the Plymouth Scamp offered an ala carte menu of engine options, ranging from the standard 198-cu.in. six to the 318 V-8â¦â HotCars.com gives this rundown on the Scampâs too-short history: âUnfortunately, the Plymouth Scamp did not have a very long-lasting run and was only sold from 1971 to 1976. Although the Scamp was a variant of the Valiant throughout its life, it was known among enthusiasts as its own line of cars, and it was treated as a sporty, luxury alternative to the economical Valiant. Unfortunately, the Scamp and the Valiant bit the dust in 1976. With the 1973 American Oil Crisis fresh in the minds of consumers everywhere, the Scamp just wasnât fuel-efficient enough for comfort, and sales of all Plymouths started to stagnate.â Offered here is a well-maintained 1972 Plymouth Valiant Scamp in outstanding survivor condition. Showing just 17,583 original miles on its odometer, the car has traveled fewer than 400 miles per-year on average since new. With its ownership history known and documented, correct Slant-Six powerplant, period-correct, modest upgrades, extremely low mileage, and overall exceptional condition, this MOPAR-survivor is a rare offering. The white exterior paint shows extremely well: smooth finish, excellent gloss, and no damage. The lime-green, bodyside, double pinstripe is an added and appealing touch cueing the interior color theme. The dark-green vinyl top is in perfect condition and nicely highlights the roofâs concave rear glass. Limited chrome trim has been well-maintained and shows virtually no patina from age. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. Factory badgingâincluding the front âPlymouthâ badge, âValiantâ emblem and âScampâ decal on the front fenders, and âPlymouthâ trunk-lid badgeâis all correctly in place. Date-coded alloy wheels with chrome trim rings are mounted with BFGoodrich® Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires. The interior two-tone green color theme has been beautifully maintained. Door panels included green-painted metal, green vinyl, and woodgrain trim in a horizontal design (âjimmy-freeâ door-lock pins have been added). The split-bench front seat and rear bench are upholstered in vertically pleated lighter green vinyl with darker green vinyl trim free of any damage or even wear indications. Green carpeting in very good condition covers the floor. The 3-spoke, green steering wheel (with a matching leather rim cover) features a Plymouth-logo center cap and frames standard instrumentation: a square 120-mph speedometer and four smaller circular monitoring gauges mounted on a woodgrain dash panel. The shift lever for the automatic transmission is mounted on the steering column, and the car is equipped with power steering and power brakes. The green padded dash is free of cracks, and its woodgrain trim extends across to the passenger side. The factory push-button AM-FM radio remains mounted. The Scampâs trunk is pristine. Under the hood, the originality continues in the form of the highly regarded 225-cubic-inch âSlant Sixâ wearing its Chrysler-blue engine-block paint. All components are properly installed and retain original finishes, for example, the black-painted air-cleaner cover. The engine bay is clean without being overly detailed. Viewed from below, the chassis is straight and complete. Light surface rust is present on untreated metal. The clean lower surfaces of the engine and transmission, and added air shocks, are visual focal points. The carâs original build, identification, and instruction tags remain as mounted at the factory. A copy of the Plymouth 1972 sales brochure for the Valiant line is included in the sale.
