When GM resurrected the Z06 package for the C5 Corvette in 2001, it changed the world of American sports cars. Fun and fast, the Z offered performance in a package that could be lived with and driven daily. At the same time, the redline was increased to 6,500 rpm (versus 6,000 in the base car, so owners could listen to that small block wind out another 500 rpm before grabbing the next gear. Speaking of gears, all that power is channeled through a rear-mounted Tremec T-56 six-speed manual transmission via an upgraded Hurst shifter before exiting the free-flowing stock dual exhaust.
