The TD21 was an organic progression from the preceding TC series cars, designed and built by Park Ward, eminently reliable and stylish coachbuilders from Rolls-Royces, they were well put together, enjoyed a stiffer chassis than before allowing sporting performance and a top speed of over 100mph from its three litre, six cylinder engine without too much trouble. Braking came from discs all round, from 1960 onwards, and the convertible version looked great from all angles, quickly ensuring the high standards of design and engineering of this motorcar now became extremely collectable.
This stunning TD21 Drophead was first registered 30th March 1960 and is presented in fabulous green coachwork with contrasting blood red leather trim with burr walnut wood dash. 429 FLD comes with an extensive history file showing work completed by marque specialists, Rectory Classics (Specialist E-Type, XK and D Type Jaguars and Alvis's) in Merstham Surrey. All parts for the restoration were purchased from Red Triangle and all receipts for work on the car will be available, the owner informs us that bills ran in excess of £50,000. The car has also been fitted with additional Coopercraft calipers to front brakes for better braking. Importantly, this is a matching numbers example with factory fitted chrome wire wheels and a manual transmission. This luxurious Alvis has fabulous bodywork and a look underneath tells you how much attention has been paid into the restoration. The chromework was all re-plated where necessary including, as new, refinished front and rear bumpers. The burr walnut dashboard and door cappings have been beautifully restored and re-veneered by restoration specialists. Having been constantly garaged since its restoration this example has just been lightly recommissioned for any new owner and presents almost as new. A smart and quintessentially British four seat drophead coupe the TD21 is lovely to drive. Ownership of Alvis is something special, and this splendid TD21 will ensure the future owner a very individual experience indeed. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
