Launched in late 1985, the 560SL convertible/coupe was the latest in Mercedes-Benz's long and much loved line of luxury sports cars that could trace its lineage back to the 230SL of 1963. In the 560SL's case its Type 107 bodyshell had debuted on the 350SL (introduced in 1970) and this timeless style would continue in production for another five years. The 560SL was powered by a 5.5-litre, overhead-camshaft V8 engine producing 227bhp, an output good enough for a top speed of 220km/h with 100km/h reachable in around eight seconds. There were improvements to the running gear in the form of anti-dive/anti-squat rear suspension, a limited-slip differential and revised steering geometry. Other noteworthy features incorporated as standard in this class-leading automobile included leather upholstery, anti-lock braking, anti-theft alarm system, stereo radio/cassette, leather trimmed steering wheel/shift lever, and an improved climate control system.
Built in 1986 and first registered in March of the same year to its first owner in Japan, the Arctic White with Blue cloth interior example on offer here is rare. Not only in its V8 engine specification, but also in that it has only covered a mere 101,902Km, translating into only 63,319 miles. Presenting very well and having just benefitted from some recommissioning work along with a MoT test, it has been professionally stored in a dry, dehumidified unit for the past 10 years ever since it was imported into the UK. A European specification car, the car boasts the more attractive âEuroâ bumpers, body etc. Boasting almost every optional extra except for heated seats and orthopaedic back rests, this meant that the 560SL is endowed with ABS, limited slip differential, driver's side airbag, climate control, a foot operated parking brake, cruise control and much more.
Supplied with a current MoT test certificate valid until September 2025, original books in their original wallet, original service book and copy of its Mercedes-Benz certificate of conformity. Whilst at the time only the American's, Japanese and Australians were blessed with the 560SL, nowadays us Europeans also get to enjoy these fantastic pinnacles of the 107 range.
