The name Mirabeau was taken from the Monaco F1 circuit corner just before entering the famous tunnel a code name assigned to the Deon project to create this fabulous custom built 246 Spyder. This example of the Mirabeau Spyder was built to order in 1995 and used as a demonstrator, thus featured in many Magazine articles. Purchased in 2013 as a non-runner a nine-year project and a staggering £80,000 restoration/rebuild was completed in 2022 and included changing the original 2.9 V6 Cologne engine and Ford LSD gearbox to an Alfa Romeo V6 (much more fitting).
The chassis was professionally strengthened, stripped and powder coated, the footwells widened and deepened and 14" Campagnolo with correct tyres fitted whilst a fitting road worthy Alfa Romeo 2.5 24v Busso with a FSH (documented) and only 46,000 miles was sourced. Indeed the car was used for six months before the engine was transplanted to be certain it was of the standard required. Offering 190 bhp and six-speed gearbox with a bespoke Lister Bell six-speed gear change, new clutch, oil cooler, and chrome rollover hoops to give it more rigidity and safety the Deon weighing 950kg whilst the Alfa 166 weighed 1,500kg which gives an impressive power to weight ratio and is more in keeping with the original engine and gearbox which inspired the Mirabeau.
The front spoiler was redesigned, sills strengthened and redesigned, rear engine cover split into two, engine and boot cover. A new dash, recovered and new instruments fitted before the body was removed and stripped top and underneath, before being painted with a Ferrari paint colour Blu Scuro and sealed underneath.
Further modifications include, all new bespoke AVO coil over adjustable suspension, new uprated brakes, discs and pads were all fitted as were new A frames, bushes, ball joints and knuckles. New bespoke Willwood pedal box with brake master and clutch master cylinders, clap hand washer wipers designed made and fitted, new radiator, radiator fans, alloy expansion tank, Alfa 166 tear hubs, discs and calipers fitted. The interior was treated to new carpets and leather retrimmed seats with new door cards made and leather trimmed before all new seals, rain gutters, wiring, dash and instruments were renewed. The lights are new and upgraded front and rear, to 246 specifications.
The car is correctly registered with DVLA as Deon with colour blue and correct engine and matching numbers on the V5, this is a very rare car with only a handful ever built and none to this standard. Offered with an MoT until March 2025, correct V5C, even a bespoke soft top frame has been designed and new mohair hood made to fit to give good weatherproofing, which will detach and be placed in the boot. We have not come across such attention to detail with an evocation like this and viewing is highly recommended to appreciate the level of craftmanship. Consigned by Mathew Priddy.
