Derivatives of the M3 are developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, where BMW have continued to build impressive racing credentials. The M3 Evolution was upgraded from 2,990cc (282bhp) in November 1995 to 3,201cc delivering 321bhp from the legendary S50B32 inline six engine, plus a new six-speed manual gearbox along with other more minor upgrades. Popular amongst circuit competition drivers, the E36 is widely considered as one of the best handling cars of the 1990s and has become a very rare sight on todays roads, due to their popularity with track day enthusiasts, meaning completely original and un-touched examples like this are very hard to come by.

This example is specified in stunning Estoril blue metallic with a black Nappa leather interior and the rarer 'sunflower' alloy wheels. The car was our vendors company car from brand new and he purchased the car from his company after one year, meaning he has been the sole driver and owner of this car from new, cherishing and always ensuring it has been maintained impeccably. The car is specified with the SMG gearbox, which was cutting edge at the time and allows the driver to change gear with a simple pull or push on the gear selector, or with buttons on the steering wheel. This is an incredibly original example, which comes with all the accessories such as torch, first aid kit, all keys and manuals, tool kit and warning triangle and it has lived a very cossetted life. The paintwork is showing some stone chips on the front end and a few small scratches here and there, to be expected with a 26 year old car and the interior is in excellent condition throughout.

In 2002, at approximately 38,000 miles, the engine was completely rebuilt by BMW main dealers. In March 2017, the SMG cables, linkages, relays and fuses were replaced. In July 2020, minor oil leaks were investigated, leading to the differential being removed, stripped and rebuilt and in October 2022, the water pump was replaced. In June 2023, new brake pads and discs were fitted, along with the alloy wheels being fully refurbished; the power steering hose/pipe also being replaced. The car was taken to CPC Engineering in September 2023, who checked the Vanos and determined it was working well. A total of twenty stamps are present in the service book, all from main dealers and BMW specialists, except for four recent services, which were carried out by a local garage when our vendor relocated to Cornwall. The most recent service (Inspection II) was carried out in June 2024 by BMG BMW specialist. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a single owner, original M3 with full documentation in excellent condition. Consigned by Fraser Smith
