In late 2007 Mercedes-Benz offered an open-top version of the prodigious SLR McLaren supercar. Claiming to be the world’s fastest production roadster, the new model continued to feature AMG’s supercharged 5.5-litre V-8 engine, developing 617 bhp and 575 foot-pounds of torque. Capable of reaching 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 333 km/h, the roadster was one of very few open models to exceed the mythical 200 mph mark.
Like its coupe sibling, the roadster was built at McLaren’s factory in Woking, UK, and the monocoque was constructed almost entirely of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, reflecting the model’s basis in Formula 1 technology, while the new soft top was electrically retractable in less than ten seconds. Standard-equipped with dual-zone automatic air conditioning and a premium Bose sound system, the interior featured carbon-fibre bucket seats trimmed in semi-aniline leather. Just 520 examples of the SLR Roadster were produced.
Built as a 2011 model-year example, this particular SLR McLaren Roadster is finished in Crystal Palladium Grey Metallic over a Silver Arrow 300 SL Red leather interior and features a dark red convertible hood and matching red brake callipers. The car was delivered new to Italy and had covered just 3,583 kms when it was sold to a French collector in 2016.
The car remains EU registered with taxes paid and maintains a COC, two keys, all handbooks and user manuals, a history file with various servicing invoices, Mercedes first aid kit and Navigation DVDs. It sits today showing just over 16,000 kms from new and has been maintained regularly over the years solely by Mercedes main dealer agents.
The SLR McLaren has aged remarkably well with regard to both its performance and looks. The Roadster variant continues to be a highly desirable car and this low mileage, tastefully specified example would make a stunning addition to any collection.
