This 1940 Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood Convertible Sedan is a beautifully restored pre-war convertible that is a CCCA Full Classic and ready for some serious cruising! For two reasons, 1940 marked the end of an era for the Cadillac Division of General Motors. First, 1940 was the final year of production for Cadillac's companion brand, LaSalle, that Cadillac's leadership determined was encroaching on and hampering Cadillac sales. Second, the 1940 model year was the final year for Cadillac's famous V-16 engine after a decade long production run. Cadillac's 1940 car lineup was essentially divided into two categories, the final year V-16 Series 90 and the V8-equipped passenger cars including the Sixty Special and the Series 62, 72, and 75. Sitting atop Cadillac's V8 hierarchy was of course the Series 75, which sat on a longer wheelbase and was offered in more body styles than any of the other V8 series cars. Stylistically, the most prominent changes for the '40 Series 75 occurred to the front end and hood treatment. Similar 1939, the grilles retained a pointed design but the die cast design in 1940 featured heavier, albeit fewer, horizontal cross bars. The significant distinction in 1940 from the previous year design occurred to the pair of ventilator casings on each side of the hood, as opposed to the single ventilator in 1939. Standard equipment on the Series 75 included leather interiors, sealed beam headlights, and turn signal indicators. This 1940 Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood Convertible is also deemed a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America which means it is eligible for CCCA events and CARavans. Under the hood on this '40 Cadillac Fleetwood is a 346 Cubic Inch L-Head V8 fed by a single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have generated 140 horsepower when new. The 346 V8 is mated to a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted using the column-mount "three-on-the-tree" shifter. Exhaust exits this Cadillac's V8 via a single exhaust setup that creates a nice throaty sound cruising down the road. This 1940 Series 75 Convertible comes equipped with fantastic options! A pair of Trippe driving lights provide additional illumination while cruising after dark. Sitting below the auxillary Trippe lights is a chrome Cadillac bumper guard that further elevates the front end look of this CCCA Full Classic. A pair of dual sidemounted spare tires add to the elegant, upscale look of this 1940 Cadillac Convertible Sedan. Riding on a set of wide whitewall radial tires, each paired with a Cadillac Wheel Disc, this '40 Cadillac 75 has an exceptional look and even better ride. The bustleback-style trunk compartment stores an additional spare tire along with plenty of room for an overnight bag or two for those overnight CARavans. The beige cloth convertible top is manually operated and appears to be in fantastic condition. The exterior of this 1940 Cadillac 4 door Convertible has been refinished in a beautiful Knickerbocker Gray paint scheme that completes the exterior look of this CCCA Full Classic. The interior of this 1940 Cadillac 75 Fleetwood Convertible Sedan is absolutely stunning! The front bench seat has been reuphostered in beautiful Gray Leather and the rear bench and matching padded seat cover are upholstered in a rich Tan leather. The front and rear gray upholstered door panels with woodgrain accents, matching gray upholstered rear arm rests and robe cord, gray carpeting, woodgrain dash, and steering wheel on this Fleetwood-bodied Convertible are all in fantastic condition and appear to retain a nice stock appearance. The front driver's compartment and rear passenger compartment are elegantly separated with a crank up glass divider window. Further elevating the rear owners' compartment is a pair of switched courtesy lights along with a Fleetwood branded cloch incorporated into the gorgeous wood trim. This 1940 Cadillac Series 75 comes equipped with full instrumentation complete with a 100 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, battery gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge. The burl-grain dash is finished with a clock, cigar lighter, locking glovebox, and push-button AM radio and speaker. Other driver amentities include an interior rearview mirror and a pair of upholstered folding sun visors. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or you're adding to your existing collection of CCCA Full Classics, this 1940 Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood Convertible Sedan would make an excellent addition.
