This Mustang is one of the most iconic post-war cars made by Ford. The Mustang came onto the market at the time as a true sensation. The robust yet sleek appearance, the high level of comfort, the impeccable performance and the affordability made the Mustang an American gem that every classic car enthusiast wanted to own. One of the most sought-after cars of the Mustang series was the V8 K-Code engine.

The K-Code Mustang was a performance car and was not available with air conditioning or power steering. A K-Code with automatic transmission was not available until 1966. Before that, K-Code Mustangs had four exhausts, just like this car. With a High Performance engine of 271 hp, this Mustang easily distinguishes itself.

The K-Code refers to Mustang's 289-cubic-inch V8 engine. The engine was named because of the K in the fifth position on the car's chassis number. The 289 K-Code was unique because of the improved pistons, lift heads, connecting rods, carburetors and cylinder heads. To maintain the look and feel of a sports car, the K-Code Mustang was offered with a standard four-speed manual transmission.

This car's entire drivetrain is designed for performance, including a high-performance clutch, driveshaft, rear differential and suspension. It's no wonder Shelby put the engine in his GT350R Mustangs. The first Shelby Mustang, the Shelby GT350R, had a modified K-Code engine.

Unfortunately, only a limited number of these engines were produced between 1963 and 1967, and there were even fewer original K-code Mustangs. Only 13,214 were made.
