As the Beach Boys song goes "She's so fine my 409", and so is this beautiful Roman Red 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 car. The 1962 Chevrolets wore handsome styling with all-new sheet metal. Triple taillights told everyone this is an Impala. Chevrolet wanted to be sure people knew you were driving the top-of-the line, as lesser Chevys made do with dual taillights. The Impala name appeared for the first time in 1958 as a deluxe trim and appearance package on the Bel Air Hardtop and convertible. Proving so popular, it became a separate, top-of-the-line series in 1959. The SS or Super Sport option was available for the first time in 1961, and in 1962 it became a separate sub-series in the Impala lineup, offering both coupe and convertible models. In 1961, fewer than 500 Impalas received the Super Sport treatment. By the end of 1962, nearly 100,000 Impala buyers wanted SS initials on their new cars. The SS models included special SS badging and wheel covers, side molding insert, engine-turned rear cove molding, passenger assist bar, and bucket seats with console â for just $53.80 extra. No wonder so many chose the SS option! Most 1962 Impalas are equipped with a small block V8 engine, however this Impala has a mighty 409 under the hood. 409 cubic inch engine 2 4-barrel carburetors Munice 4-speed Hurst shifter Bucket seats Read mounted antenna Original AM radio Correct spinner wheel covers This Impala is stock in appearance, complete with steel wheels, deluxe spinner wheel covers, whitewall tires and rear mounted radio antenna. The shiny paint finish on this straight-bodied Impala looks great, as does the chrome, bright trim and moldings. Inside, the red bucket seat interior is stock and appears unmodified. Even the original AM radio and short factory console surrounding the upgraded Hurst 4-speed shifter are still in place. Powering this classic is the iconic 409 engine mated to a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. The engine features an aluminum intake manifold with two four-barrel Carter AFB carburetors that will impress anyone that lifts the hood. The engine bay is clean and is close to factory stock in appearance with correct painted valve covers with "409 Turbo-Jet" decals in place. This Impala was ordered with performance in mind, with no power brakes or power-robbing power steering. This handsome 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 is a powerful piece of nostalgia that looks great and is a blast to drive. Call today!
