Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to present this 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The Jeep Wagoneer is a luxury 4x4 produced and marketed under Jeep under successive automakers from 1962 to 1991. The 1989-1991 model years are considered the top of the breed due to several upgrades. These include upgraded wood siding and modernized aluminum alloy wheels that lost their gold-colored inlays in favor of gunmetal grey metallic. Chrysler also introduced an electrocoat primer for better rust proofing and all exterior colors were now applied in a two-stage base-clearcoat system. With Chrysler purchasing AMC in 1987, the 1988 models essentially a match for their predecessors outside of a newly available sunroof, and keyless entry, an overhead console with map lights, and a rear wiper becoming minor additions to the equipment list in 1989. The Pentastar would bring with it several improvements, such as improved anti-corrosion measures, better overall assembly of the vehicle, and the standardization of certain components that had previously been sourced from a long list of car companies. This upscale version of the Cherokee sported a carpeted interior, a 5.9-liter V8 engine that came standard, 3-speed Chrysler TorqueFlite A727 automatic transmission and a Selec-Trac NP229 transfer case, wood-panel exterior, and a list price comparable to a Corvette. 10,159 units of the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer were built for that year alone and 101,637 within its entire production period.
