1966 MK1 Sunbeam Tiger 4300cc 260ci V8.
This little gem is the British equivalent to the AC Cobra. Designed in part by American car designer and racing driver Carroll Shelby and produced from 1964 until 1967. Shelby had carried out a similar V8 conversion on the AC Cobra, and hoped to be offered the contract to produce the Tiger at his facility in the United States. Rootes decided instead to contract the assembly work to Jensen at West Bromwich in England, and pay Shelby a royalty on every car produced.
With only 300 said to be left on the UK roads, these cars are becoming more and more desirable as their shared characteristics with the AC Cobra shine through to create an outstanding partnership of British and American driving.
The 260 cubic inch 4300cc Ford V8 engineered to fit by Shelby into the Tiger body provides plenty of thrills. With 160bhp and a top speed of 120mph powered at the rear wheels
This example presents well, bodywork is showing its age in places but you have to look close. Interior is very nice. Underside has been treated to a Lanoguard coating so nice and presentable. Under the hood is nice clean and tidy. Mechanicaly she fires on the button and drives well.
Previous owner only had her a few months but prior to that she was in the same loving hands for 23 years, this can be seen by the extensive folder go history that comes with her.
Only 3 previous owners from new.
All in all she is a well presented usable classic
Good history folder. While in my ownership i have received a call from one of the previous owner from back in the 90's informing me that she was re-shelled with a later model shell, prior to his ownership. To me this is a bonus but for the anoraks out there this vehicle is probably not for you...
