Historics "Summer Serenade' Sale Saturday 20th July
Historics ‘Summer Serenade’ Sale
Windsorview, Berkshire, SL3 9HX
The classic and collector market is constantly evolving and there’s no better example than at Historics’ ‘Summer Serenade’ sale at Windsorview Lakes this Saturday 20th July.
The increasing popularity of modern classics is there to see amongst the exceptional 180 entries. They attract a fresh raft of enthusiasts and buyers which is great news, although one of Historics’ star lots shows that the evocative past is just as significant, in the shape of an exceptional pre-war classic...
Forget ‘concours condition’’ for a moment. The allure of this very rare 1926 Bentley 3-litre Speed Sports Tourer by Vanden Plas ‘barn find’ is altogether different as it’s probably one of the last remaining totally unrestored examples to be discovered. Believed to have been stored for nearly 60 years of its life it’s remarkably complete, a mouth-watering restoration opportunity and will reward its next custodian with ownership of a magnificent piece of history.
‘Remarkable’ but for a completely different reason and a huge contrast to the Bentley is a stupendous 1992 Vauxhall Lotus Carlton which Historics’ confidently says is one of the absolute finest one will ever come across. Its mighty twin-turbo straight six propelled it to 177mph, making it the fastest four-door saloon in the world at the time.
Talking Lotus, we are delighted to bring to sale here a real rarity – a 1986 prototype of the M100 Lotus Elan. It was designed by the exceptional regarded Peter Stevens (who also penned the magnificent Jaguar XJR-15 and many other very significant cars, now classics). Rarely do manufacturer prototypes come to sale and this is an exceptional piece of history to own.
And take a good look at a fine example of the car that first made the name ‘Elan’ famous - a feisty 1972 Lotus Elan Sprint DHC that became a true sporting icon and remains huge fun to drive. It comes to market in the company of a 1967 Lotus Elan S2 SE to fast road spec.
From Japan Historics has an exquisite modern rarity – a 2019 Honda NSX with just 432 miles since new and one of just 150 UK-suppled examples.
But if iconic Americana is on your glass of bourbon, you won’t fail to be thrilled by the 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback, wonderfully prepared in the spirit of the “Bullet“ car with a raft of upgrades. 310 bhp from its 302cu.in.V8 promises a memorable experience at the wheel.
Porsche and motorsport are indelibly linked and amongst the fine contingent of Stuttgart classics on sale here is a feisty and exceptional homage to the factory Porsche 914/6 GT that came an astounding sixth overall at Le Mans in 1970 and was contested in USA racing too. The specification of this car is absolutely magnificent, warranting an eight-page feature in the current issue of Classic Porsche. Take a very close look.
Finally from the Stuttgart stable is a real eye-popper....a 1986 3.2 litre 911 Carrera that’s nothing like it seems!... The huge skills of well-established Porsche specialist, Rindt Automotive Design have utterly transformed this extraordinary car which is now 100% electric, the power from its twin electric motors transmitted to the road by a drive belt. A hugely involving and entertaining car to drive, weight distribution is now a virtually perfect 50/50. Its bespoke specification is utterly mesmerising, such is the attention to detail of the RIndt team. Don’t miss this, the all-electric Porsche 911 by Rindt.
Meanwhile, the opulence of the Rolls-Royce and Bentley marques is well-represented, one of many stand-outs being a 2003 Bentley Arnage R, a rare ‘press and special operations’ example used by Bentley before being purchased by style and fashion icon, Tom Ford. Superbly appointed, it is offered at a temptingly affordable price.
This tiny glimpse at the sale entry mustn’t close without mention of a hugely varied and excellent entry of classics from Mercedes-Benz, and a great array of British sporting classics too. They encapsulate those of the 60s and 70s right up to modern classic icons from the Ford stable, including a 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth, 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and 1992 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth. What a trio!
A good long look at all 180 entries is encouraged during the three viewing days preceding the sale which starts at 9.30am on Saturday 20th July
