Pacey Ascot Sale Is Brimful With Quality
150 varied classics in line-up for Historics’ Autumn auction offering
The holiday season may be on the wane but there’s plenty amongst the 150+ entries at Historics’ ‘Pace of Autumn’ sale at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 14th September to maintain the summer vibe.
And what an opener is this... surely the most elegant car in the sale: An exquisite 1939 Bentley 4¼ litre MX Series Sedanca Coupé by Thrupp & Maberly comes to sale in concours condition after a restoration costing some £170,000. Built specially for Captain Molyneux, Chairman of Rootes in 1939, this Bentley is glorious and immensely collectible.
The same applies to a 1990 Aston Martin V8 Vantage X Pack, previously owned by Jay Kay of Jamiroquai. With 432bhp underfoot, extremely limited production and one of only two such models finished in elegant Litchfield Black, it ticks all the serious collector boxes and promises the most exquisite driving experience.
Staying with the sporting theme, Historics is offering a truly unique and wonderfully-restored (over 25 years no less) 1973 Alpine 110 Berlinette works rally car that comes to market with THE most extraordinary personal story attached. Take a long look and be captivated by the story of this exceptional collector car in the catalogue. Joining it too at the auction is an excellent 1972 example of this spirited French classic.
Jumping stateside and calling all adventurers....If you’re looking for something different to go touring with – and perhaps competing in the Paris-Peking Rally? - look no further than the mighty, freshly oak-wheeled 1916 American LaFrance Type 40 Speedster. And talking adventures but in a calmer vein, a wonderfully-specified Airstream International Colorado – 102 years the La France’s Junior! - is just the ticket for touring in consummate style.
Another USA icon and a thoroughbred powerhouse is sure to capture plenty of bidding attention: The 1964 Shelby American Coupé Continuation is No. 11 of just 50 produced – this one in 2015 – and is validated on the Shelby Register, showing just 452 miles on the odometer.
It joins a number of wonderful American classics loaded with street cred including a fully-restored, jet black 1957 Ford Thunderbird.
Ford of Britain is well-represented too, including a one-owner 1996 Ford Escort RS Cosworth in concours condition, enjoyed by just one owner since new and showing only 17,450 miles in a shade under 30 years. A 1993 Lux example of this feisty modern classic joins it, this being one of just 200 special homologation models with water injection.
As ever, Historics is offering a selection of fine Jaguars, including something to keep you busy in the autumn and winter months by way of a 1966 E-Type Series 1 2+2 Coupé restoration project.
With huge success, in period, in national saloon car racing beneath its belt, the Triumph Dolomite Sprint has a strong following and the example here of 1978 vintage is simply magnificent in every respect and is surely one of the finest you will ever come across after meticulous restoration and upgrades that now sees 165bhp underfoot.
Be sure to take a close look at the elegant Mercedes-Benz classics assembled here and, similarly, fine examples of its Stuttgart compatriot Porsche. Historics has assembled ten enormously varied models spanning several decades, with a legendary 3.3 litre 1980 Porsche 911 Turbo in super condition after some £25,000 being spent on it. And modern classic enthusiasts can’t fail to be attracted to the immensely capable, track-focused 2004 Porsche 911/996 GT3 RS, accompanied by a stunning 2015 Porsche 911/991.1 Turbo S.
Finally in this brief preview, returning to the homeland, be sure to take a long look at the 1973 AC 428 Frua Coupé. Dating back to 1907, AC Cars may be best known for the iconic Cobra but the 428 – a high octane blend of Italian styling courtesy of Pietro Frua, 7-litre V8 muscle from Ford and classic British engineering from AC - is very worthy of a place in a classic hall of fame. This fine example is one of just 51 produced.
Preceded by three full viewing days, Historics ‘Pace of Autumn’ sale at Ascot Racecourse starts at 9.30am on Saturday 14th September. To register to bid in hall, by phone and online, see HERE
