An 81-car barn find requires a significantly large storage space, which explains why this diverse French collection was discovered scattered across several fields and outbuildings, buried under rubbish and overrun by brambles. This remarkable find, one of the largest ever uncovered, was unearthed in 2018 by auctioneer Henri Adam from Adam Encheres.
The collection belonged to Henry Ruggieri, a compulsive buyer who rarely used the cars. To prevent them from being sold, he removed a vital component from each vehicle. Among the notable finds was a 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400, a rusty, grime-covered, matching-numbers car with non-standard wheel nuts, a broken crank handle, and 77,886 km on its odometer. This Miura had joined Ruggieri’s collection in 1996 and fetched €560,000 when it was subsequently sold.
Adding to the collection's allure, other notable vehicles included a Porsche 356 coupe and a Series I Jaguar E-Type. The collection predominantly comprised cars from the 1960s and 1970s, housed in a massive barn in rural France. These vehicles are a testament to the era's automotive craftsmanship and include a variety of makes and models.
Among the eclectic mix are a super-rare Pre-A Porsche 356 coupe, a 1981 C3-generation Chevy Corvette, several Lincoln Continentals, multiple Lancia Flaminias, and even a 1930s Citroen van. The collection also features Audis, Volkswagens, Peugeots, Oldsmobiles, Alfa Romeos, Renaults, Chryslers, and Cadillacs, showcasing a truly diverse array of automotive history.
